Workshop: Recharging the Mind – Outbound & Psychological Motivation for Dissertation Warriors

The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held an event titled Recharging the Mind: Outbound & Psychological Motivation for Dissertation Warriors at Hotel Jayakarta Yogyakarta, located on Jl. Solo, on July 22, 2025. This in-person event was organized as a form of support for doctoral students’ learning spirit and mental health, particularly in facing the challenges during the dissertation writing process.

The event was intended for 50 doctoral students in the Physics program and was fully facilitated free of charge by the institution. This reflects the Department of Physics’ commitment not only to providing academic support but also to paying attention to students’ psychological well-being. The activity began at 07.30 AM and continued until 4.00 PM, encompassing two main complementary sessions.

The first session was a Psychological Motivation Workshop delivered by Diana Setyawati, S.Psi., M.HSc.Psy., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, UGM. In this session, participants received materials focused on psychological reinforcement, stress management, and self-motivation to complete their dissertations more productively while maintaining mental health.

The second session was an Outbound activity facilitated by a professional team from Fresh Training & Outbound. Through various games, challenge simulations, and group reflection sessions, participants were encouraged to rebuild camaraderie, enthusiasm, and mental resilience—crucial qualities for completing doctoral studies.

Participants’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the event. Many expressed that the program provided a refreshing experience, boosted their confidence, and gave them renewed energy to refocus on their dissertation work.
